In Search of the Poorest Family

In Search of the Poorest Family

This is considered one of the flagship projects of IFF, because it is at the core of what affects the Family. Most of the challenges faced in our society dovetail into this detestable phenomenon that rips humanity of its dignity, form and character.

While we recognize our limitations and challenges in approaching this problem, our duty is to make the reality of the existence and domineering effects of extreme poverty on people more obvious to society and governments and to possibly identify the root causes and propose remedial actions, on the basis of:

  1. Social aspects
  2. Economic aspects
  3. Political aspects.

Different categories of Poverty include:

  • Absolute poverty
  • Relative Poverty
  • Situational Poverty
  • Generational Poverty
  • Rural Poverty
  • Urban Poverty

The International Family Foundation shall continue to revisit this issue of poverty amongst and within families, as a way of compelling understanding compassion from society, towards restoring dignity and respect to the human Spirit.

The World Bank defines “extreme poverty” as living on $1.25 or less a day. The good news however is that rate of extreme poverty has been halved since 1990, with an estimated 21 percent of people in the developing world now living at/or below the $1.25-per-day threshold; down from 43 percent in 1990 and 52 percent in 1981. Such statistics reinforces our belief in the possibility of overcoming this challenge through concerted efforts and action.

Some of the top causes of poverty around the world include:

  • Inadequate access to clean water and nutritious food
  • Little or no access to livelihoods or jobs
  • War and conflict
  • Discrimination and inequality
  • Poor education and illiteracy
  • Climate change
  • Lack of infrastructure
  • Limited capacity of the government.

Poverty is more, much more than just not having enough money. Indeed, according to the World Bank, Poverty is hunger. Poverty is lack of shelter.

POVERTY IS REAL AND ENDEMIC.
